Emergency Management Official to Keynote
General Meeting of the League of Women Voters
William (Bill) MacKay, deputy director of the Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management, will be the featured speaker at the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area general meeting on Saturday, Feb. 26. His topic will be homeland security and the role of the Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management.
MacKay is a 25-year veteran of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and most recently served as battalion chief, Special Operations, which included responsibility for the Hazardous Materials Response Team and emergency preparedness for the county’s Fire and Rescue Department. MacKay has also served as a consultant to the United States Fire Administration in Emmitsburg, Md. As deputy director of the Office of Emergency Management, MacKay is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office and is responsible for providing guidance to various county agencies in the preparation for, response to and recovery from natural and man-made events.
The general meeting will be held at the Heart in Hand Restaurant, 7145 Main Street in Clifton. Registration begins at 10 a.m., the program begins at 11 a.m., and lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. The cost of the lunch program is $22 per person.
