Providence District Sponsoring Seminar Series
Interested in demystifying the land use and planning process in Fairfax County? On May 2, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., county residents can attend a free seminar with county staff to learn more about land use and planning. This seminar will be held in the cafeteria of the Fairhill Elementary School, 3001 Chichester Lane, Fairfax.
Seminar participants will get an introduction into the legal and legislative issues that affect land use, such as the Dillon Rule. Other topics will include an exploration of by-right development and zoning administration and enforcement issues. Speakers will include Karen Harwood, Office of the Fairfax County Attorney; Bruce Nassimbeni, Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services; and Bill Shoup, Fairfax County Department of Planning Zoning.
Additionally, the transportation demand management consultant for the Vienna Metro Station area will present an overview of the project process and gather community feedback and suggestions for the project.
The May 2 seminar is sponsored by Providence District Supervisor Linda Q. Smyth, and the event is the first of a series of free seminars about land use and planning. Future seminars, which have not been scheduled yet, will feature speakers from county agencies, discussing topics including the county zoning ordinance, the comprehensive plan, proffers, storm water management and more.
