“Citizen’s Guide to the 2005-2006 South County Area Plans Review” Now Available

Fairfax County initiated a review of the Comprehensive Plan and has published "The Citizen's Guide to the 2005-2006 South County Area Plans Review." This booklet can be printed from the Department of Planning and Zoning Web page on the county's Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpz/apr. Printed copies will be available soon at the Department of Planning and Zoning, the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors district offices. Call 703-324-1380, TTY 711, to determine if the printed copies are available.

The 2005-2006 South County Area Plans Review process focuses on Fairfax County's Braddock, Lee, Mason, Mount Vernon and Springfield supervisors districts. Proposals for changes, called nominations, to the Area Plans volumes of the Comprehensive Plan may be submitted to the Planning Commission between July 1 and Sept. 21 using the form included in the guide and on the Planning and Zoning Web page. Nomination forms from the Web must be downloaded, printed and mailed. Electronic submissions will not be accepted because paper attachments, such as certified mail receipts, are required. Instructions for filing a nomination, opportunities for citizen participation and details of the Area Plans Review process are provided in the Citizen's Guide.

The Comprehensive Plan is the guide used by the community, the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors to make decisions about the county's built and natural environments. This five-volume document consists of the Policy Plan and four Area Plans. The Comprehensive Plan is found on the Department of Planning and Zoning Web page at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpz/comprehensiveplan and at public libraries.

The 2004-2005 North County Area Plans Review, which comprises the Dranesville, Hunter Mill, Providence and Sully districts, is nearing completion with Board of Supervisors public hearings and mark-up scheduled for mid-summer.
