Outstanding School Safety
Patrol
Hana Kang selected
Hana Kang of Fairfax will be recognized for receiving a 2004-2005
Outstanding Safety Patrol of the Year award from the Mid-Atlantic
Foundation for Safety and Education. Selection criteria for the
distinction is based on leadership, dependability, academics, promptness,
neatness and industriousness. Kang, a sixth-grader at Fairhill Elementary
School, Fairfax, was selected for the honor from among the 11,000 school
safety patrols in Fairfax County.
Keeping Things Green
Recognition of Earth Day/Arbor Day sponsors and
committee
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the sponsors and members of the
Earth Day/Arbor Day 2005 Committee for their support of the event.
Sponsors of the event include: Northern Virginia Community
College-Annandale Campus, Barbara Saperstone, provost; Fairfax County
Solid Waste Management Program-Recycling, Jeff Smithberger; and Clean
Fairfax Council, Rosemary Byrne, executive director. Members of the
committee include: Julia Brown, Rosemary Byrne, Nancy Chamberlain, John
Dudzinsky, Meredith Eisenberg, Cheryl Fairhurst, Robin Gorham, Pamela
Gratton, Ted McGill, Mike McMahon, Rose Purple, Cheryl Robinette and
Charles Sakowicz.
Dedicated Community Activist
Retires
Herb Taylor gave his all
Herb Taylor of Fairfax will be recognized for his community service to
Fairfax County. Taylor has served on the Fairfax-Falls Church Community
Services Board, the Woodburn Mental Health Center Advisory Board and the
Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute Advisory Council. In addition,
Taylor has served with a variety of civic associations and the Providence
District Faith in Action Committee.
McLean Fields Task Force To Be
Recognized
Exploring sites and maximizing use
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the McLean Fields Task Force for
establishing criteria to evaluate existing and future athletic fields for
the greater McLean community. The task force established a model for an
objective approach to solving the demands for additional athletic fields.
The task force was co-chaired by Jon Braswell and Chris Monek. Additional
members of the task force include Gary Bell, Bob Bestold, Michael
Champness, Chris Cole, Brian Daly, Bob Diamond, Brian Dreyer, Kevin Fay,
Linda Lammersen, Craig Names, Bill Newman, Kley Parkhurst, Caroline
Pickens, John Shomaker and David Watkins.
