Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
Discusses Results of Regional Transportation Survey
At its August meeting, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors discussed the results of a recent public opinion poll on transportation in Northern Virginia.
The board discussed the survey results because they indicate that Fairfax County residents, along with other Northern Virginia communities, are frustrated by traffic. Two-thirds of survey respondents are frustrated with the trips they take and of those, nine in 10 expressed frustration with traffic as the reason.
The poll was commissioned by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority. The authority surveyed 1,263 residents of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax City, Manassas and Manassas Park. Full results can be found online at www.transaction2030.com.
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly, a Northern Virginia Transportation Authority member, stated, “This survey clearly shows that citizens are frustrated with an inadequate transportation network and are not only strongly supportive of investments that will provide relief, but also willing to pay to make those investments happen.”
The authority, which was created by the Virginia
General Assembly in 2002, is responsible for long-range transportation
planning for regional transportation projects in Northern Virginia. The
authority has 16 members representing the cities of Fairfax, Manassas
Park, Manassas, Falls Church and Alexandria, the counties of Fairfax and
Loudoun, the House of Delegates and the Senate, as well as two citizens
who reside in counties and cities which make up the authority and are
appointed by the governor. For more information about the authority,
