Negotiations May Affect Fairfax Connector Bus Service

Fairfax Connector bus service in south Fairfax County may be affected by labor negotiations between employees of Local 3398 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the contracted bus operator, Connex/Yellow Transportation Inc. The contract between AFSCME 3398 and Connex/Yellow Transportation Inc. expires at midnight Wednesday, Sept. 14. Negotiations to renew the contract are underway.

Should the contract renewal be delayed and union employees decide to strike, Fairfax Connector will operate the Sunday schedule on weekdays on bus routes in south Fairfax County. The decision to operate a Sunday schedule versus a weekday schedule was based on driver availability and is believed to be the maximum level of reliable bus service that can be provided under the circumstances. Sunday bus service operates on an hourly schedule. Beginning today, informational fliers and posters explaining the potential service changes are being distributed at major bus transfer points.

Sunday bus service will be operated on the following south county bus routes if a strike occurs:
101, 123, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322 and 401.

Bus service will not operate on the following south county bus routes:
109, 231, 232, 301, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 331, 332, 380 and VRE EZ-Bus.
