Neighborhood College Targets Vienna Teens
The 2005 Vienna Teen Neighborhood College is now accepting applications from teens in grades 9-12 for its award-winning community leadership program offered by the Fairfax County Department of Systems Management for Human Services, in partnership with the Vienna Community Center and the Vienna-Madison Community Coalition. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, 5:15–7:30 p.m., Oct. 18–Nov. 15 at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street, SE, Vienna.
Using a combination of lectures, group discussions and fieldwork, students will participate in an engaging, hands-on curriculum specifically developed to teach them about local government and improve their organizational and problem-solving skills. Participants will learn how to become involved in their community. They will meet government officials and community leaders, gain practical experience, solve problems and make decisions.
This free program will include a light dinner. Class size is limited and early registration is recommended. Registration forms are available at the Vienna Community Center. The deadline for registration is Oct. 7.
