Red Cross Moves Local Hurricane Assistance Efforts to Fairfax County Government Office in Falls Church
Starting Monday, Sept. 26, the local offices (Fairfax, Arlington and Alexandria) of the American Red Cross will relocate to the first floor of Fairfax County’s East County Government Center at 6245 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church (near Seven Corners), to jointly staff an assistance center for Hurricane Katrina victims. This will enable the Red Cross and the local jurisdictions to better serve those who need various types of assistance. Clients will no longer be seen at the local chapter offices once the center is open, except under special circumstances. The phone number at the relocated center is 703-538-7440, TTY 711.
During the transition, should you have trouble getting through on the new phone line, you can still call the old phone number, 703-584-8701, TTY 711. Hours of operation for the new location will be the same as before, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
In addition to receiving emergency assistance from the American Red Cross, those seeking assistance can also meet with staff from Fairfax County’s Department of Family Services and other county agencies at the local government center to enroll in emergency medical assistance, find out about employment opportunities and access a range of services and support.
“The county’s quick action and support have been wonderful,” said Susan Aarhus, executive director of the American Red Cross’ Fairfax-Falls Church office. “This
is a great partnership to meet the needs of hurricane evacuees in a very efficient way.”
