Fairfax County Wins Two
Awards for E-government Initiatives
Fairfax County has one of the best government Web sites in the country, according to the Center for Digital Government, an international research and advisory institute on information technology in government and education. Fairfax County garnered a second place award in the County Portal category of the Best of the Web competition, which recognizes and celebrates the innovations and resulting maturity in providing solutions and communicating well with residents, businesses or educational communities.
First launched in 1996, the Fairfax County Web site is an integral part of the county's e-government strategy. "Fairfax County is very pleased to be a winner in the Best of the Web contest this year," said Fairfax County Chief Information Officer David J. Molchany. "The county's Web site is a part of our overall e-government strategy, which also includes multimedia kiosks, interactive voice response, mobile access to services, broadcast cable TV, text-based messaging and customer relationship management."
Fairfax County also was recognized by the commonwealth of Virginia with a 2005 Governor's Technology Award. The county received the e-Government award, which recognizes a public sector organization that makes broad and innovative use of technology to deliver services to constituents.
"The power of e-government is the ability to deliver information and service when and where it is convenient for the customer," said Molchany. "This on-demand government is tailored to the needs of those we serve. We strive to create an e-environment in Fairfax County that is also e-local and holistic, delivering information and services in a manner that our customers require and that are tied directly to the overall mission of the county government."
