Fairfax County Executive to Present State of Emergency Planning and Preparedness to Board of Supervisors
Fairfax County Executive Anthony H. Griffin will give a presentation to the Board of Supervisors during the morning session of the board’s Monday, Oct. 17 meeting. Griffin’s presentation entitled, “Fairfax County: The State of Emergency Planning and Preparedness,” will cover six major areas:
- The progress the county has made since Sept. 11, 2001.
- An overview of the county’s emergency management response and outline of who is in charge during an incident.
- Evacuation plans, especially in light of recent events with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in New Orleans and Texas.
- The needs and responses by the county to special populations.
- The ways the county communicates with its residents and internally with key responders.
- A future action plan for continued efforts the county can undertake.
The presentation will begin some time after 10:30 a.m., or whenever the board’s presentation of certificates of appreciation and awards to county residents and businesses is finished. The meeting will be held in the board auditorium of the Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, and is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn about the county’s “all hazards” approach to emergency management and how the county is prepared to respond to an emergency event. The presentation also may be viewed live on cable Channel 16 or live on the Internet at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/cable/channel16/vod.htm. A Channel 16 replay of the board meeting will be available on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at 10 a.m. Griffin’s presentation will also be available Monday afternoon on the county’s Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov.
