Chinese Earthquake Administrators to Visit Fairfax County
Two Chinese delegations of earthquake administrators will visit Fairfax County this month to learn how emergency management operates in the United States, with particular interest in best practices and Fairfax County’s role in and coordination of federal and local efforts in the emergency response to earthquakes.
The visit will also provide an opportunity for the administrators to share their experience and ideas with emergency management staff from Fairfax County. Severe earthquakes in Asia have dramatized the importance of this type of exchange.
The delegations are sponsored by the China Earthquake Administration and will meet with the Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management and the Fire and Rescue Department on Monday, Nov. 14 and Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the county’s Alternate Emergency Operations Center located in the Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. Emergency Management staff will provide an overview of the emergency management function in Fairfax County; Fire and Rescue staff will present on the Urban Search and Rescue Unit and its activities with recent earthquakes. Each meeting will begin with a presentation by county staff followed by a question-and-answer period.
