Contact Your Trash Company for Curbside Collection of Waste From Tree Removal, Construction or Remodeling
Fairfax County officials want residents to know that home and garden makeovers don’t end at the curb. The waste generated from tree removal or home construction or remodeling isn’t routinely picked up by residential trash companies.
Before putting this kind of trash on the curb, residents should contact their waste collection company or contractor to make special arrangements for disposing of these items. Fees and restrictions vary by company. Residents also can haul their waste to a county disposal site. Visit http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/recycling/curbside-who.htm to find contact information for many residential waste collection companies and the locations of county waste disposal facilities.
Most households in the county have their trash picked up by private firms. However, approximately 43,000 households receive county waste collection service. To learn if the county picks up your trash, please visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/specialpickup/matchaddress.asp, or call 703-802-3322, TTY 711, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.
If your trash is collected by the county, you can arrange for the removal of oversize waste generated from tree removal, construction or remodeling through the MegaBulk service. This service will accommodate the removal of oversize items but only for households that have their trash collected by the county. To learn more about the guidelines for MegaBulk service, please visit http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/navbar/faqs/trash-large.htm, or call the phone number above for a brochure.
To schedule a MegaBulk collection, fill out the online form at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/specialpickup, or call the automated system at 703-802-3322, TTY 711. The minimum charge for MegaBulk service is $60. Payment is accepted by credit card or check only; please follow the directions explained online and the automated phone system. County trash collection staff will never ask for cash.
