Sara J. Simmons Appointed Executive Director of Civil Service Commission
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors today appointed Sara J. Simmons as the executive director of the Civil Service Commission. Simmons’ appointment is effective on April 1.
Simmons has worked for the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning since 1989 and currently serves as the manager of Information Technology and Administration. She previously served in the city manager’s office of Sacramento, Calif. and with the Department of Public Works in Camden, N.J.
Simmons holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from George Mason University and a master’s degree in government administration from the University of Pennsylvania. She is certified in professional human resource management.
While with the Department of Planning and Zoning, Simmons received the county’s Outstanding Performance Award in 1992, 1994, 1996 and 2002.
The Civil Service Commission, appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, represents public interest in improvement of personnel administration and advises the Board of Supervisors, county executive and human resources director on policies and procedures related to human resources.
Simmons’s salary will be $101,658.
