Seedlings on Sale Through April 14
The Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting orders for two native seedling packages — a tree and shrub package and a groundcover package.
The six native species included in this year’s tree and shrub package produce colorful berries and hearty nuts that feed migrating songbirds and sustain wildlife through the winter. Some even produce fruit that is edible for humans. The package includes 14 seedlings for $16.95. Each package contains two hazelnut, two graystem dogwood, two black chokeberry, two persimmon, two shadblow serviceberry and four Virginia pine seedlings.
The $4 groundcover package includes four Virginia creeper seedlings, which is a native vine and a favorite of local wildlife.
The deadline to order is April 14. Seedlings will be available for pickup on April 20 and 21 at a convenient location in Fairfax County. Supplies are limited. For additional information, contact the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District at 703-324-1460, TTY 711, or visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/nvswcd/seedlingsale.htm.
