Final Two Land-Use Seminars Start on May 8
Providence District Supervisor Hosting Three-Part Seminar Series
On May 8 and 22, two free seminars on land use will be offered at the Fairhill Elementary School, 3001 Chichester Lane, Fairfax, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night.
On Monday, May 8, the topic will be “Affordable Housing Issues and Opportunities.” This seminar will explore issues such as the estimated unmet housing needs in Fairfax County and how to provide affordable housing through the land-use process. County staff will deliver an overview of the issue, engage in a panel discussion and answer questions from the audience.
The Monday, May 22 seminar, “The Private Sector’s Perspective of the Land Development Process,” will feature representatives from the building industry. These speakers will discuss their perspective on zoning and building code regulations and environmental constraints; site layout and engineering; and the site plan review process, among other topics. Attendees also will participate in break-out sessions with private sector representatives and county staff to learn about the development process. At the end of the evening, participants will discuss ideas generated from these break-out sessions on how to improve the land development process.
The seminars are sponsored by Providence District Supervisor Linda Q. Smyth. The first seminar of the three-part series took place on April 25.
