Fairfax County Board Chairman Releases Statement
On Today’s Shooting of County Police Officers
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly issued the following statement this evening after this afternoon’s shooting at the Sully District Police Station in Chantilly, Va.
“In a tragic irony – on the day of nationwide remembrance of fallen officers – Fairfax County has lost one of its own in the line of duty.
“All of Fairfax County mourns the loss of an exemplary detective. Over the years, each and every day our law enforcement officers have worked to protect our community and to make Fairfax County the safest jurisdiction of its size in the United States.
“Today, one of those officers made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our community and another is in critical condition after hours of surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families tonight.
“As the police chief stated, all information points to the act of a lone, troubled individual, not a conspiracy, not the act of terrorism. It would appear that the gunman specifically targeted our police.
“Fairfax County is a big and diverse place but it is a community – we will stand together with our public safety officers and in deep respect and sympathy for their fallen comrades, together we will begin the healing process and move forward.”
