Franconia/Springfield Fairfax Connector Store Grand Opening to Be Held on May 16
The public is invited to join members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors at an early-morning grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Franconia/Springfield Fairfax Connector Store on Tuesday, May 16, at the Franconia/Springfield Metro Station, 6880 Frontier Drive, Springfield. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. From 7 to 8:30 a.m., residents and passengers can enjoy refreshments and pick up transportation literature. As part of the Fairfax Connector’s 20th anniversary celebration, a specially decorated anniversary bus also will be on display at the Metro station.
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly and Lee District Supervisor Dana Kauffman will speak at the grand opening ceremony. Remarks also will be presented by WMATA’s Assistant General Manager of Customer Communications, Marketing and Sales Leona Agouridis; Transportation Association of Greater Springfield President John C. Mutarelli; and Fairfax County Department of Transportation Director Kathy Ichter.
Formerly located at Springfield Mall, the Connector Store has long had a presence in the Springfield area. Moving the transit store to the Franconia/Springfield Metro Station makes it more easily accessible for commuters. A major hub for transit in the south county area, Franconia/Springfield is home to a Greyhound bus station, a Virginia Rail Express station, as well as the Metro station. It also is a major pick-up point for most south county bus routes.
Fairfax Connector stores provide valuable one-stop shopping for commuters to track down information about anything transit, from bus routes to Metro lines. Patrons can pick up a vast array of fare media for many area transit carriers including DASH, PRTC’s OmniRide, Metro and VRE. There also are Connector stores at Tysons-West*Park Transit Station; Reston East at Wiehle Park & Ride; and Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride.
Those attending the grand opening are encouraged to use Metro or Fairfax Connector. Short-term metered parking also is available on-site.
