Area Plans Review for South County Moves Forward
The Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning has published the staff reports for the 2005-2006 South County Area Plans Review nominations and public hearings have been scheduled. The staff reports, which have been posted at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpz/apr, include background information, analysis and a recommendation for each land use nomination. This Web page also includes general information about the Area Plans Review process, the status of each nomination and its general location. South County includes Braddock, Lee, Mason, Mount Vernon and Springfield supervisor districts.
Public hearings for each district have been scheduled at the Board Auditorium of the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. The Planning Commission will hold these hearings at 7:30 p.m. on the following dates: June 21 (Mount Vernon District); June 22 (Braddock and Springfield districts); June 28 (Mason District); and June 29 (Lee District). If necessary, carry-over items for the Planning Commission have been scheduled for June 29 (after the Lee District hearings) and July 12. On July 26, the Planning Commission will hold its markup session beginning at 8:15 p.m. for all South County districts.
The Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on the nominations at the Board Auditorium on Sept. 11 (Braddock, Lee and Mason districts) and Sept. 25 (Mount Vernon and Springfield districts). Times will be available at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpz/apr.
If approved by the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors, these nominations would amend the Comprehensive Plan, which is a guide used to make decisions about the county’s built and natural environment.
The staff reports are available in limited quantities and can be obtained at the Department of Planning and Zoning, Herrity Building, 12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 730, Fairfax, or from the respective Board of Supervisors office.
