Mount Vernon Offers Senior Forum June 24
The first Mount Vernon Senior Opportunities Forum will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in West Potomac High School’s auditorium located at 6500 Quander Road, Alexandria.
The event will give seniors the opportunity to learn about programs that are tailored specifically for them, with presentations and exhibit booths by Fairfax County departments and other agencies. Seniors also will hear from Gerald E. Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, who will address the topic of changing demographics and seniors in Fairfax County.
Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerry Hyland will guide a “virtual” senior tour of the area, which will highlight places of opportunity for seniors. “Stops” on the tour include thriving at home, transportation, senior centers, libraries, recreation, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and South County Government Center. Throughout the tour, topics addressed will include adult day healthcare, home modifications for accessibility and healthy aging. A question-and-answer session will conclude the forum, and light refreshments will be served.
