Two Fairfax County Centers Closed Due to Flooding; Location Changed for RECQuest Program
Huntington Community Center and Little River Glen Senior Center are closed due to flood damage. Huntington Community Center, located at 5751 Liberty Drive, Alexandria, is normally open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. Little River Glen Senior Center, located at 4001 Baker Court, Fairfax, is normally open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Children participating in the RECQuest program at Huntington will be shuttled to Gum Springs Community Center until 5 p.m. A Fairfax County staff person will be at Huntington to supervise the process. All other parts of the RECQuest program will operate as scheduled.
In response to heavy rains this weekend that have caused flooding in the Arlington Terrace section of southeastern Fairfax County, the county and the American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter and emergency service center at Edison High School, 5801 Franconia Road, Alexandria. The service center is open from noon to 8 p.m. on June 26. The emergency shelter at Edison High School will remain open overnight on June 26. If residents are experiencing flooding, they should seek higher ground or evacuate immediately to the shelter. Residents may drive to the location and enter the building using entrances 12 and 14.
Fairfax County has partially activated its Alternate Emergency Operations Center at the Fairfax County Government Center to monitor and respond to this situation.
