in Arlington Terrace Area on Friday, June 30
Fairfax County, in partnership with Volunteer Fairfax, is organizing a cleanup effort this Friday, June 30, in the areas affected by recent flooding, including Huntington and Arlington Terrace. A Volunteer Mobilization Center will be set up at Edison High School, 5801 Franconia Road, Alexandria, to coordinate volunteers. The school is located at the intersection of South Van Dorn Street and Franconia Road. The center will open at 9 a.m., with volunteers working two shifts: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and noon – 4 p.m. The time allows for a one-hour volunteer processing and orientation and a three-hour working shift.
Volunteers are needed to work in the following areas:
- Remove personal belongings from basements and carry out to the curb.
- Remove mud from basements.
- Pull drywall materials and carpeting out to the curbside.
- General house cleaning.
Parking is available at Edison High School and Fairfax County will provide transportation via bus from the school to the cleanup area. Volunteers are asked not to bring personal items to the cleanup, such as purses or other valuable items that they wish to keep clean.
Volunteers should wear lightweight, comfortable clothing that they do
not mind getting dirty. Sturdy shoes for outdoor work, such as boots or
sneakers, also are recommended. Supplies will be provided.
To volunteer for the cleanup, please register at www.volunteerfairfax.org.
There is a need for Spanish-speaking volunteers in this effort. For
additional information on volunteering, call 703-246-3460, TTY 711.
At this time, there is no need for any tangible donations. Please do not bring items to Edison High School or Volunteer Fairfax.
