Providence District Puts History into “Perspective”
Fairfax County Supervisor Linda Q. Smyth of the Providence District is initiating a historical project, which was inspired by the rich past of the district, entitled “Providence Perspective.” The Providence Perspective Project Committee, which residents are invited to join, will work during the next year to capture the rich history of the district, including oral history interviews.
“Some of the most memorable meetings have been when residents took a moment to share a story with me,” Smyth said. “In those stories I have found many treasures that have captured our past into snapshots of memories that desire our attention.
Residents are encouraged to submit written recollections, historic materials/documents and photographs. All materials will be handled with care and promptly returned. “Providence Perspective” will be published as a keepsake for residents and for the enjoyment of future history sleuths. This book will also be available in digital format.
To submit materials or to join the project committee, please contact Supervisor Smyth’s office at 703-560-6946, TTY 711, or via e-mail at provdist@fairfaxcounty.gov.
