Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to Honor
Kimberli Costabile
Kimberli Costabile, of Annandale, will be honored by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors at its regularly scheduled meeting Oct. 23 with the 2006 Barbara Varon Volunteer Award. The award was established to recognize a Fairfax County resident’s dedication to improving the community through volunteer service.
Trained as a journalist and bilingual instructor, Costabile was selected for initiating cultural and communication links between various groups in the community, as well as her assistance in teaching citizenship and literacy classes. She also formed English vocational courses for those applying for citizenship in this country. Currently she is serving as the chairman of the Mason District Council of Civic Associations.
The award is named in honor of Barbara Varon, former chairman of the Fairfax County Electoral Board. Award nominees must reside in Fairfax County, demonstrate an appreciation for the diversity of the community’s population, exhibit patriotism, show evidence of having a positive effect on the community and be known for encouraging others to do the same. A selection panel appointed by the Board of Supervisors chose Costabile from among eight nominees.
