Hunter Mill District Winter Coat Closet
Opens Nov. 14
With the beginning of winter around the corner, the Hunter Mill District Winter Coat Closet, co-sponsored with Reston Interfaith, will open on Tuesday, Nov. 14, for its fifth year of helping area residents stay warm. The Coat Closet will be accepting donations for adults and children at the North County Government Center at 12000 Bowman Towne Drive, Reston, on the following days and times through Feb. 24:
- Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon
- Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.
- Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hunter Mill District Supervisor Cathy Hudgins noted, “The annual Coat Closet has become such a tremendous effort for Hunter Mill residents to embrace the spirit of giving.”
Last year approximately 2,715 coats were given away, an increase from the 500 given away the previous year. Donations of winter coats are tax deductible and receipts are available. It is asked that donations be new or gently used (in good condition and dry cleaned). Both child and adult sizes are needed ─ extra large sizes are especially appreciated. Volunteers are needed to assist clients in selecting coats, greet donors and sort donations.
“These acts of kindness aid in providing a stronger sense of community through services and sacrifice,” Hudgins said.
