New Judge Takes Oath at
Fairfax County General District Court
Lisa A. Mayne was formally sworn in as the 11th judge of the Fairfax County General District Court on Nov. 9. She was elected by the Virginia General Assembly to fill the judgeship it created earlier this year. As a General District Court judge, Mayne will hear traffic cases, criminal misdemeanor cases, preliminary hearings on felony cases and civil cases where the amount in controversy is less than $15,000.
Mayne was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1986 and to the D.C. Bar in 1989. The new judge was a partner with the Fairfax law firm of Kelly, Mayne and Daughtrey, where the bulk of her practice was before the General District Courts with an emphasis on civil litigation.
In 2004, Mayne was appointed a substitute judge for the 19th Judicial District. During her tenure as a substitute judge, she presided over cases in the Fairfax County General District Court and the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, as well as serving as a substitute judge for district courts in neighboring counties and jurisdictions.
Mayne received her undergraduate degree from Pitzer College and her Juris Doctorate from George Mason University School of Law. She is a former chair of the Fairfax Bar Association General District Court Committee, a past president of the GMU Law Alumni Chapter and GMU Alumni Association, and a recipient of the GMU Alumni Service Award.
