Town Meeting to be Held to Discuss Findings of Huntington Flood Study by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
A town meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m., in the Jack Knowles Lecture Hall at Walt Whitman Middle School, 2500 Parker’s Lane, Alexandria, to present results of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study of the June 25-26, 2006, flooding in the Huntington community of Fairfax County.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, performed the study of the Cameron Run floodplain in relation to the June 2006 storm events. The study compiled past surveys and studies along Cameron Run, as well as rain gauge data and stream data from the June flooding event to determine the risk and extent of future flooding.
At the town meeting, staff from the county’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services and the USACE will review the findings of the analysis of the June flooding and present possible next steps.
The final report by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be available at the meeting, along with handouts, and a question and answer session will follow the formal presentation of the study findings. A Spanish language translator will translate the meeting. Following the meeting, the study also will be posted online on the county’s Web site.
If you have any questions or need further information about the town meeting, contact Merni Fitzgerald in the Office of Public Affairs at 703-324-3187, TTY 711.
