Fairfax County Board of Zoning Appeals Seeks Applicants by Feb. 15
Interested in Fairfax County zoning issues? The Fairfax County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) seeks a candidate to fill a board vacancy. Applicants should have familiarity with the Fairfax County Zoning Ordinance; the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan; land use, environmental and transportation principles; public administration; law; and/or engineering. Completion of the Boards of Zoning Appeals Virginia Certified Program is desirable.
A quasi-judicial body, the BZA hears appeals of decisions by the zoning administrator or any other zoning official; requests to vary certain requirements of the Zoning Ordinance in unique circumstances when the strict application of the local Zoning Ordinance would, among other things, be unduly restrictive and cause a hardship; interpretations as to the location of a zoning district boundary; and, in a legislative capacity, applications for special permits authorized by the Zoning Ordinance..
The BZA holds public hearings most Tuesday mornings starting at 9 a.m. All meetings are televised by Fairfax County Government’s Channel 16.
The Fairfax Circuit Court appoints seven members to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Presently, members receive $550 per month, as authorized by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, for five-year staggered terms.
The vacancy will be filled based on resume and curriculum vitae. A background check will be performed for all candidates. Resumes must be postmarked by Feb. 15 and sent to Fairfax Circuit Court, 4110 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, VA 22030 ATTN: Kim Pratt.
