The Boomers Are Coming and They’re Carrying iPods
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ Aging Committee will present a program, “The Boomers are Coming and They’re Carrying iPods,” on Monday, March 5, at 10 a.m. in Conference Room 232, Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.
The presentation will focus on how Fairfax County can identify and implement the opportunities to improve the quality of life for older adults today and in the future as technology progresses. The themes are independence through technology, access to information and connectivity. There will be a discussion and demonstrations of monitoring systems, transportation technology initiatives, library resources, cable and broadband access and county information technology capabilities.
The Aging Committee, chaired by Lee District Supervisor Dana Kauffman, requested the program, which was developed by a group organized by Providence District Supervisor Linda Q. Smyth, chair of the Board of Supervisors’ Technology Committee. Participants included AARP, as well as the county’s Area Agency for Aging, Department of Information Technology, Library and others.
In May 2006, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors convened an Aging Committee to examine the various challenges the county faces as its population ages and to develop a comprehensive policy plan to ensure that Fairfax County is and remains an “aging friendly” community.
Online information for older adults can be found on the Fairfax County Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/seniors/.
