Free Exercise Classes for Older Adults in Franconia-Rose Hill Area Start March 22
Classes Part of New County Program to Promote Independent Living
Free exercise classes will be offered to older adults in the Franconia-Rose Hill area this month. The classes are part of the county’s new pilot program “Independent Living.” This program helps older adults continue to live independently — and safely — in their own homes.
Classes begin Thursday, March 22, and will run through April. Seniors living in the Franconia-Rose Hill area may sign up for classes that meet once a week either on Thursdays or Fridays:
- Thursday, March 22, to Thursday, April 26, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 5952 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA 22310
- Friday, March 23, to Friday, April 27, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., Virginia Hills Baptist Church, 6507 Telegraph Road, Alexandria, VA 22310
The one-hour classes will focus on improving balance, building strength and preventing falls. Registration is required; call 703-324-7210, TTY 703-222-9452.
The county’s Department of Community and Recreation Services and Inova Health System are sponsoring the classes.
“Independent Living,” is a public-private partnership program between faith communities in the Franconia-Rose Hill area and county and state government agencies, including Elderlink, Options for Caregiving; Fairfax County Community and Recreation Services; Fairfax County Department of Family Services’ Adult and Aging Division; Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department; Fairfax County Health Department; Inova HealthSource, a division of Inova Health System and Virginia Department of Health.
