Hunter Mill District Mobile Skate Park Open April 21
The Hunter Mill District will host a mobile skate park from 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the Southgate Community Center, 12125 Pinecrest Road, Reston. The park will provide local access to the skating community and offer an opportunity for some residents to experience skateboarding and rollerblading for the first time. The event is free and open to the public.
“One day of fun skating at Southgate Community Center is another step forward in offering a permanent skate park for our Hunter Mill District youth,” said Hunter Mill District Supervisor Catherine Hudgins.
The mobile skate park is co-sponsored by the Fairfax County Park Authority, the Fairfax County Park Foundation, Southgate Community Center, Reston Community Center, the Reston Association, America-in-Line Skating and EnviroSolutions Inc.
The county’s first permanent skate park opened at Wakefield Park in 2004. The park is planned to be completed in three phases. Phase one included ramps, inclines and grind rails. Construction for phases two and three is pending funding from future parks bond referendums.
For more information on the mobile skate park, contact the Hunter Mill District Office at 703-478-0283, TTY 703-736-4460.
