Fairfax County Collecting Items May 5 to Send to Soldiers
Residents are invited to visit the James Lee Community Center, 2855 Annandale Road, Falls Church, on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., to “Adopt a Soldier” and help pack up “We Care” boxes for soldiers deployed overseas. The Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services is asking residents to help collect items for the boxes, help pack them and then “adopt a box” and mail it. The flat-rate boxes cost $8.10 to ship to Iraq, Afghanistan or other sites overseas.
Soldiers have to pay for all of their personal care needs, so sending them toiletries, snacks, Gatorade dry packs, candy, books, batteries, baby wipes, etc. are welcome. There will be laptop computers set up for anyone to send an e-card message to a soldier who is deployed.
For more information, contact Bill Dunn at 703-534-3387, (ext. 217), TTY 711.
