Fairfax County Wins Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 30th Consecutive Year
Once again, Fairfax County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for excellence in financial reporting. For the 30th consecutive year, the county received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the association for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2006.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report. The report must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.
Fairfax County’s CAFR for FY 2006 was judged to meet the high standards of the award program, which included demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” that clearly communicates the financial story and motivates potential users to read the CAFR.
GFOA is a nonprofit professional association, with approximately 16,000 members in the United States and Canada, dedicated to the sound management of government financial resources.
