Sign Up for Traffic Alerts from CEAN

If you’re stuck in holiday traffic this summer, remember to register for traffic alerts from Fairfax County’s Community Emergency Alert Network (CEAN) when you return home from vacation. In addition to being able to receive Fairfax County specific traffic alerts, users can also receive traffic advisories from Arlington County, Va. and Montgomery County, Md.

Users who subscribe to groups titled Severe Traffic Disruptions (Fairfax County), Arlington Traffic, or Montgomery Traffic will receive alerts – such as a major shutdown or a disruption of traffic flow – from those jurisdictions.

In addition to Fairfax County’s severe traffic alerts, CEAN subscribers also can receive weather alerts – either weather 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or weather 24/7 – and government closings and delays.

The Community Emergency Alert Network delivers important emergency alerts, notifications and updates during a major crisis or emergency for residents, as well as those who work in Fairfax County. Messages can be delivered to all registered devices, such as an e-mail account, cell phone, text pager, satellite phone or wireless PDA.

The CEAN also lets residents receive precise information by using an interactive map to pinpoint locations, such as home, work, school, childcare location or other places of interest within Fairfax County for location-specific messages. In addition to pinpointing on a map, residents also have the option of entering street addresses, which will allow updates on severe traffic or emergencies within a set radius.

To register for the Community Emergency Alert Network, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/cean.
