Royal Lake Auxiliary Spillway Rehabilitation Project
Informational Meeting on June 26
An informational meeting on the Royal Lake Auxiliary Dam Rehabilitation Project is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bonnie Brae Elementary School, 5420 Sideburn Rd., Fairfax.
The Royal Lake Auxiliary Dam Spillway was constructed three decades ago in 1976 and, according to federal officials, no longer meets today’s design and safety criteria. While the chance for a structural failure is deemed very remote, studies have shown some residences and roadways would be at risk should there be a catastrophic failure of the dam.
The project’s contractor will give a presentation on the time frame for construction, tree removal, trail relocation and answer residents’ questions. Fairfax County engineers also will be at the meeting.
The Royal Lake Task Force, composed of community leaders, neighbors and residents living near the lake collaborated on a plan acceptable to all affected parties. The plan has been approved and funded.
For more information, contact the Braddock District Office at 703-425-9300, TTY 711.
