Fairfax County Named Top Digital County

Fairfax County is one of the top digital counties in the nation for jurisdictions with populations over 500,000, according to an annual survey by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties.

In April, all U.S. counties were invited to participate in the 2007 Digital Counties Survey. A Top 10 ranking was established for each population category. Fairfax County received fourth place in the 500,000 or more population category, ranking in the top five for the third consecutive year.

The county’s award-winning e-government program has been successful in creating a 24-hour government without walls, doors or clocks. The program uses many ways to deliver information, including the Web, 25 interactive customer information kiosks, Interactive Voice Response via touch-tone phone and a cable TV government channel.

Through any of the county’s e-government platforms, residents can pay taxes, locate facilities and transportation routes, access general court information and register for parks and recreation classes and activities.
