Business Summit a Success;
Business Leaders and Owners Gather to Discuss Emergency Planning
Fairfax County elected officials and county government staff joined nearly 200 business leaders and owners today at the Fairfax County Business Preparedness Summit sponsored by WJLA-TV 7 in partnership with Fairfax County.
In a letter distributed to summit participants, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly stated, “We have a responsibility to ensure that our businesses survive and continue to thrive in the face of numerous threats. Should an unexpected disaster occur our business community holds a critical piece in ensuring a timely, efficient response that could ultimately be the difference between lives saved and lives lost.”
Summit participants attended sessions about business preparedness and continuity of operations planning; emergency messaging and risk communications; and the National Incident Management System. Attendees took a tour of the Fairfax County Alternate Emergency Operations Center and viewed exhibits from county agencies involved in emergency planning and response, in addition to the Medical Reserve Corps, the Community Emergency Response Team, the American Red Cross, Volunteer Fairfax and WJLA TV-7.
The Business Preparedness Summit is one of several county events that have been held to help businesses plan and prepare for emergencies. Highlights of the summit will be featured in September’s “County Magazine,” a program on Fairfax County Government’s Channel 16.
