Braddock District to Host Debut of “A Look Back at Braddock” Web Site
Braddock District will host the official debut of the “A Look Back at
Braddock” Web site, www.braddockheritage.org, on
Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kings Park Library Community
Room, 9000 Burke Lake Road, Burke.
The Web site was created through a collaboration between the Braddock District’s A Look Back at Braddock (ALBB) Task Force and George Mason University’s (GMU) Center for History and New Media.
Speakers will include:
-
Dr. Jack Censer, dean of GMU’s College of Humanities and Social
Sciences, who will discuss GMU’s Center for History and New Media and
its role in creating the site.
-
Tom Scheinfeldt and Lee Ann Gbajar, of GMU, who will describe how they
moved the project from concept to reality.
-
ALBB Map/Web Site Committee Chair John Browne, who will conduct a
virtual tour of Braddock history using the Web site.
A visitor to www.braddockheritage.org is treated to a trip back in history starting in 1685 when most of what is now Braddock was part of the Ravensworth land grant purchased by William Fitzhugh. Stories, photographs, maps and transcripts of oral history interviews conducted during the making of the book “Braddock’s True Gold” can be found at the Web site. The event will be taped for later broadcast by Fairfax County Government Channel 16 on Friday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 9, at 8 p.m.; and Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m.
