Note to editor: A downloadable photo and synopsis of each presentation will be posted on the county’s Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/opa/presentations.htm on Monday, Nov. 19. These photos will remain on the Web site until the next board meeting with presentations on Monday, Dec. 3.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, at its meeting on Monday, Nov. 19, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., will recognize staff, adopt resolutions and issue a proclamation. For more information, call 703-324-3187, TTY 711.
On the Road
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Gene Hull, retiring district
deputy administrator for the Virginia Department of Transportation. Hull
is celebrated for his 50 years of public service on transportation
projects in Northern Virginia.
Adoption Awareness Month
The Board of Supervisors will designate the month of November as
Adoption Awareness Month in Fairfax County. In the past year, 35 children
were adopted through Fairfax County. Observance of this month shows
appreciation to the judges, lawyers, social workers and volunteers in the
community who help children and families with adoption. The Board of
Supervisors urges all residents to reflect on the dreams of children who
wait for a permanent family and those families who desire the joys and
responsibilities of parenthood.
Kay Larmer
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Kay Larmer, a pioneer in the
area of services for older adults, adults with disabilities and their
caregivers. Larmer retires after 28 years in the county’s health and
human service agencies.
Best of the Web
The Board of Supervisors will recognize staff who were instrumental
in the county’s Web site being selected as the 2007 Best of the Web by
the Center for Digital Government. Providing information and government
services readily available electronically was a driving factor in the
award criteria.
AIDS Awareness Day
The Board of Supervisors will designate Dec. 1 as AIDS Awareness Day
in Fairfax County. Worldwide, there are more than 40 million people who
live with HIV/AIDS. An estimated 45,000 Americans become infected with
HIV each year. More than 18,522 Virginians live with HIV/AIDS, and 32
percent of them are between the ages of 30 and 39. The Northern Region of
Virginia has seen a 24 percent increase in reported HIV/AIDS cases.
