Town Meeting on Plan to Protect New Alexandria and Belle View From Flooding

At a town meeting on Tuesday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at Belle View Elementary School, 6701 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will provide an update on the plan to protect the New Alexandria and Belle View neighborhoods from flooding.

Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerald Hyland will make introductory remarks, followed by a presentation from the USACE and staff from Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services. They will explain the various alternatives to protect the New Alexandria and Belle View communities from flooding. The area was flooded in 2003 during Hurricane Isabel.

Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback following the presentation. A Spanish language interpreter will translate the meeting.

Residents of the two communities are encouraged to participate in the flood damage reduction process and maintain an ongoing dialogue with the county for the duration of the project. The USACE and the county will gather information on community concerns, ideas and sensitivities regarding potential flood reduction alternatives.

For more information about the meeting or the plan, call the Stormwater Management Division, Department of Public Works and Environmental Services at 703-324-5500, TTY 711.
