Get Connected With Your Community Through Upcoming
Springfield Neighborhood College

The Fairfax County Department of Systems Management for Human Services is now accepting applications for the 2008 Springfield Neighborhood College. The registration deadline for these free classes is Wednesday, April 2, and class size is limited. Applications are available at the Richard Byrd Library, 7250 Commerce Street, Springfield, or can be requested by e-mail at

Classes, which also are held in Spanish, will take place on Monday evenings from April 7 through May 19, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Richard Byrd Library. There also will be one Saturday session on April 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A light meal will be served and child care, if necessary, will be provided.

The Neighborhood College is an award-winning community leadership program open to residents interested in learning about Fairfax County, and how to work with neighbors, community organizations and local government to strengthen neighborhoods, build community capacity and promote a strong sense of community.

This session is focused on providing current and emerging community leaders with:

  • A greater understanding of Fairfax County government.
  • An increased awareness of resources, services and ways to get involved.
  • New skills training on effective participation in the county and community.
  • Network connections that build a sense of community.
