2008 Culmore Cleanup Scheduled for May 3

More than 200 volunteers from the Culmore community, businesses, churches and nonprofits will roll up their sleeves and put on gloves for the sixth annual Culmore Cleanup on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participants should check in at 9 a.m. at the Woodrow Wilson Library, 6101 Knollwood Drive, Falls Church, to receive trash bags, a T-shirt and gloves. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. Following the cleanup, participants can return to the library for pizza and door prizes. The library also will host a wildlife presentation by staff from the Hidden Oaks Nature Center. Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly plans to stop by.

The volunteers, along with residents, will clean up trash and other debris along Route 7 and Patrick Henry Drive to Beachway Drive/Blair Road to Columbia Pike. From Columbia Pike the crews will continue to Route 7 and back to Patrick Henry Drive. All streets between these points are planned to be covered.

The cleanup is organized by the Alternative House, Bailey’s Beautification Alliance, the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, Culmore Family Resource Center, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, the Mason District Supervisor’s Office and the Woodrow Wilson Library. Sponsors include the Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads, Security One Bank, Pollo Campero and Wachovia Bank.

Volunteers are asked to contact the Woodrow Wilson Library at 703-820-8774 ext. 4, TTY 711, to pre-register.
