Ceremony to Dedicate Trails to Burke Centre VRE Station on May 10 at 11
On Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m., the two new trails leading to the Burke Centre VRE Garage will be dedicated by Braddock District Supervisor Sharon Bulova. The ceremony will be conducted rain or shine near the parking lot by the Little League field. Tours will be conducted after the ceremony.
The trails allow residents from the adjacent Burke Shire Commons and Walnut Woods neighborhoods to get to the garage on foot or bicycle. Recently named after these two surrounding communities, the trails span a total of 1,260 feet and include two pedestrian bridges.
The county worked collaboratively with residents to locate and design the two trails. Community input was critical to making the trails aesthetically and environmentally compatible with the area.
The Burke Centre VRE Garage will open in June. It will offer commuters more than 1,200 parking spaces. An additional 300 parking spaces will be available on the lot outside the garage, along with a kiss-and-ride area and bus stops.
