The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, at its meeting on Monday, June 30, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., will make the following presentations to residents and county staff. Matthew Tiemann
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Matthew Tiemann for his
award-winning design in the Springfield communitywide flag design
competition sponsored by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
Burke Centre Library Friends
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the Friends of the Burke Centre Library, members of the
time capsule committee and the winners of the student essay contest for
their efforts on behalf of the library. The new Burke Centre Library
opens June 28 after a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In preparation for the
opening, a time capsule was prepared to be opened in the year 2038. The
winning student essays will be included in the time capsule.
2007 Reston Multicultural Festival Planning Committee and
Sponsors
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the planning committee and
sponsors of the 2007 Seventh Annual Reston Multicultural Festival. This
award-winning festival highlights the global diversity of cultures in
Fairfax County.
2008 Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration Sponsors and Commitee
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the sponsors of the 2008
Earth/Day/Arbor Day celebration including the Northern Virginia Community
College, Clean Fairfax Council and Division
of Collections and Recycling in the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services.
Warding Off the Winds of Winter
The Board of Supervisors will recognize Reston Interfaith and public and
private organizations that contributed to the support of the 2007-2008 Hunter Mill District Winter Coat Closet. The
outstanding commitment and noteworthy support of staff, volunteers and
contributors to the Coat Closet resulted in the distribution of nearly
5,000 coats and more than 1,500 hats, gloves and scarves to those in need
throughout Fairfax County.
Planning Commission’s 70th Anniversary
The Board of Supervisors will recognize the 70th anniversary of the
Planning Commission and designate July 6-13,
2008, as Planning Commission Week in Fairfax County. Established to
oversee the land-use process on July 6, 1938, 121 citizens have served
terms totaling more than 780 years of dedicated service to the county.
