Olivia L. McLean Appointed Office of Emergency Management Coordinator

- Olivia L. McLean was formerly the director of emergency and security management for the South Florida Water Management District in West Palm Beach, Fla.
McLean’s start date is Aug. 25.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Olivia L. McLean as coordinator of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). She will begin her new position on Aug. 25.
Since 1993, McLean has been the director of emergency and security management for the South Florida Water Management District in West Palm Beach, Fla. In that capacity, she led the agency’s preparedness response and recovery to all emergencies and disasters through interdepartmental response teams.
Prior to that position, McLean served as the director of the Department of Administration and Risk Management for the City of Boynton Beach, Fla., from 1987-1993; as the assistant to the city manager for the City of LaPorte, Texas, from 1984-1986; and as the special assistant to the mayor in the City of Pasedena, Texas, from 1982-1984.
McLean is a certified emergency manager, which is the highest professional certification offered by the International Emergency Management Association. She is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Houston Clear Lake and a certificate in leadership in crisis from Harvard University.
McLean will receive an annual salary of $131,000.
OEM provides emergency mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery services to the residents of Fairfax County by writing the Emergency Operations Plan, managing the county’s Emergency Operations Center and 24/7 Watch Center, and by coordinating post-disaster recovery activities. OEM also provides emergency planning in such areas as special needs, continuity of operations and emergency operations.
