Robert J. Smith will be presented his official commission as a Fairfax Circuit Court judge on Friday, July 11, at 4 p.m. The investiture ceremony will take place in Courtroom 5J, Fairfax County Courthouse, 4110 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax. The public is invited to attend the one-hour investiture ceremony, as well as a reception immediately afterwards in the courthouse atrium.
At the ceremony, Delegate David Albo will present Smith with his official commission. Circuit Court Chief Judge Dennis J. Smith will ceremonially administer the oath to Smith, who took his oath of office on Feb. 1.
Before joining the Circuit Court, Smith served for 17 years as a judge of the Fairfax County General District Court. Prior to that he was the senior assistant public defender for Fairfax County from 1987 to 1990.
Smith attended the University of Illinois and the John Marshall Law School, Chicago, Ill. He is a colonel in the United States Army Reserve and the chief trial judge of the Army Reserve.
