Nominations for the third annual Lawrence V. Fowler Award for distinguished service by a member of a county board, authority or commission (BAC) are being solicited from Fairfax County residents. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 1.
To be considered for the award, individuals must have served on a BAC for at least 10 years demonstrating exceptional service contributions to the overall quality of life in the community. The 10-year minimum can be a combination of consecutive service on more than one BAC.
Entry applications may be obtained by contacting the Office of the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors at 703-324-3151, TTY 711, by e-mail or online.
Anyone may submit nominations. An internal selection committee will review the nominations and determine the award recipient. The award will be presented on Dec. 8 at the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting.
The award is named for Lawrence V. Fowler, a volunteer who served for 41 years on the Fairfax County Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) and its predecessor. He was instrumental in many of the commission’s initiatives, including drafting ordinances, position papers and reports for the protection of consumers and developing the CPC Web page. In 1990, he received the Distinguished Public Service Leadership Award for Dedicated Service to the Citizens of Fairfax County. Last year’s award went to Peter J. Murphy Jr., longtime chairman of the Fairfax County Planning Commission.
