The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors today appointed George Braunstein as executive director of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. He will begin his new position on Oct. 11.
Currently, Braunstein is executive director of the Chesterfield Community Services Board, which provides services to more than 8,000 annually and prevention services to another 6,000 annually.
He has more than 24 years of experience in public and private sector behavioral health service systems, including experience as a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner.
He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives; a member of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration National Advisory Council; a board member and chair of the Public Policy Committee of the Virginia Association of Community Services Boards; and a board member of the National Association of County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Directors.
Prior to joining Chesterfield, Braunstein served as the executive director for Aurora Behavioral Healthcare, Milwaukee, Wis., from 1998-2000; as the director of behavioral health for Family Health Plan, Milwaukee, Wis., from 1993-1998; and as the administrator/manager for the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex, Wis., from 1986-1993.
He is a graduate of Rockford College in Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in history. He also received a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in community mental health from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Braunstein will receive an annual salary of $165,000.
The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board partners with individuals, families, and the community to empower and support Fairfax-Falls Church residents with or at risk of developmental delay, intellectual disabilities, mental illness and alcohol or drug abuse or dependency.
