Fairfax County Opens Emergency Shelter at Mount Vernon RECenter

  • Emergency shelter opened at Mount Vernon RECenter.
  • If residents are experiencing flooding, they should seek higher ground or go to the shelter.
  • Transportation is available from Huntington Community Center to the emergency shelter.

In response to Tropical Storm Hanna, Fairfax County has opened an emergency shelter at Mount Vernon RECenter, 2017 Belle View Blvd., Alexandria. If residents are experiencing flooding, they should seek higher ground or go to the shelter.Transportation is available from Huntington Community Center, 5751 Liberty Drive, Alexandria, to the emergency shelter.

The National Weather Service flash flood warning for Fairfax County continues until 5:15 p.m. and a flash flood watch will remain in effect until 11 p.m.

Fairfax County has partially activated its Alternate Emergency Operations Center (AEOC) at the Fairfax County Government Center to monitor and respond to this situation. Media can call staff at the AEOC at 703-502-6101, TTY 711.
