The Fairfax County members of the Virginia Incident Management Team (IMT) will be returning to Fairfax County tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 4. The team was deployed to Cameron Parish, La., Sept. 20 to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike in response to an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM).

The Fairfax County team was composed of:

  • Dan Williams, branch chief, Critical Structures, Commercial Inspections Division, Department of Public Works and Environmental Services.
  • Michael Guditus, emergency management specialist, Office of Emergency Management.

Cameron Parish submitted a request for assistance through Louisiana EMAC for an Incident Management Team to provide support for 14 days – operating in two teams at two EOC sites in east and west Cameron Parish providing operational support and relief for city personnel. On one day’s notice, a team was coordinated from Virginia to fulfill the requirement with a team of eight personnel. The two county employees met up with the six other members of the Virginia team in Staunton, Va., to travel together.

Additionally, a second team, primarily based out of southwestern Virginia with one member from Fairfax County will deploy this weekend. Paul Lynch with the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services will meet up with the rest of the team in Lake Charles, La. this evening. The team will drive to the EOC Saturday morning and then the two teams will transition.
