McConnell PSTOC and Bus Operations Center Ribbon-Cutting Held Oct. 10

 Members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors; regional, state and local officials; and public safety and transportation representatives gathered at the Fairfax County West Ox Complex on Friday, Oct. 10, to cut the ribbon for the McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center (MPSTOC) and the Fairfax County Bus Operations Center.

The event was attended by more than 300 people. The West Ox Complex is a unique partnership among Fairfax County, the commonwealth of Virginia and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

 MPSTOC Ribbon Cutting

Among the officials participating in the ribbon-cutting were, left to right: Fairfax County Supervisor John Foust (Dranesville District); Fairfax County Supervisor Penelope Gross (Mason District); Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board Chairman Christopher Zimmerman; Fairfax County Deputy County Executive Robert Stalzer (behind Zimmerman); Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Vice-chair Sharon Bulova; Virginia Secretary of Public Safety John Marshall; former Fairfax County Supervisor Elaine McConnell (Springfield District); Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald Connolly; Fairfax County Supervisor Gerald Hyland (Mount Vernon District) (behind Connolly); Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity (Springfield District); Fairfax County Supervisor Catherine Hudgins (Hunter Mill District) (behind Herrity); and Fairfax County Police Chief Col. David Rohrer.

Elaine McConnell 

Earlier this year, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to name the facility the "McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center" in honor of former Fairfax County Supervisor Elaine McConnell (Springfield District). The board called McConnell a "champion in the field of public safety and transportation."
